There are two time zones in the British Virgin Islands. The most commonly used time zone is GMT -4, Eastern Caribbean Time (ECT). The other zone, which is rarely used, is GMT -5, Atlantic Standard Time (AST).

Eastern Caribbean Time is observed year-round in the BVI and is 4 hours behind Coordinated Universal Time (UTC-4). Daylight Saving Time is not used in the BVI - clocks remain on Eastern Caribbean Time all year.

Atlantic Standard Time is rarely used for government, business, and education related activities in the British Virgin Islands. AST is only used during the winter months of December through February, when clocks are set one hour ahead of Eastern Caribbean Time (GMT -5).
